Young Professionals of Asheville (YPA) connects young adults in order to better lead and serve the greater Asheville community. YPA welcomes young professionals (21 – 40 years of age) living in Western North Carolina to join us in activities and events focused on professional development, fostering connection and serving others.

Your $20 annual dues ensures membership with the Young Professionals of Asheville. Membership fees will be used for programming throughout the year. (Rates will not be pro-rated based on sign-up date, year ends June 30, 2013.)

Goodwill Industries of Northwest North Carolina will be showcasing its newly renovated workforce development center at the Business Before Hours on Tuesday, May 21. Located at 1616 Patton Avenue in Asheville, the center features 39,500 square feet of space dedicated to services that help people find jobs and reach financial stability. Programs offered at the center include:

Skills Training classes in a variety of fields in partnership with A-B Tech
Career Connections Center offering free, personalized career counseling to job seekers
Project Re-entry which provides services for former-offenders
Community Access which supports adults with developmental disabilities
Youth Lab with resources for a variety of programs serving teenagers and young adults.

OM Sanctuary (Oshun Mountain Sanctuary, Inc.) is a non-profit holistic retreat center responding to the increasing number of people seeking balance, health and inspiration in their life by offering renewal retreats, events and educational programs for sustainable living.

Join them on the beautiful OM Sanctuary grounds, (site of the former Richmond Hill inn) to celebrate the launching of their next phase of programs and overnight retreats. Sarah Susanka, author of the Not So Big book series and OM Sanctuary Advisory Board member, will lead a blessing for the Ribbon Cutting followed by the Sahara Peace Choir directed by Linda Metzner. Founder Shelli Stanback and COO Harry Feinberg will premiere the “About OM Sanctuary” video produced by Taylor Johnson.

2013 Chamber Challenge 5K Race 6/7/2013

Are you ready for the Challenge! A 5K run or walk through historic Montford may or may not be a walk in the park, but it is a great way to raise awareness and challenge your co-workers and employees to a healthier lifestyle. Teams consist of either four men, four women, or a mixed team of two men and two women. Registration is open. Gather your coworkers, your friends or your family to form a team of four or enter as an individual.

TRAINING
We've teamed up with YMCA once again, and this year they have designed a "Couch to 5k" training program to help everyone make a habit of fitness and prepare for the June 7th race.

YMCA of WNC is leading a free training program. Trainings meet Tuesday and Thursday at the Asheville YMCA at noon and at the Reuter Family YMCA at 5:30 pm. Training sessions consist of coach-led walk/run combo workouts following a Couth to 5K program. The last week or two the group will meet at the Chamber to preview the course. YMCA coaches will send out weekly emails to the group with general tips, motivation and the workouts for the week. Sign up for training classes at either YMCA location.

The Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting a monthly Lunch & Learn Series. This series is generously sponsored by the Advocates for Small Business and is intended to answer questions posed through our Membership Survey. The June 12th session features Business Development, and will be held at the Chamber of Commerce, 36 Montford Avenue, in the Asheville Merchants Corporation Board Room, from 12:00 noon until 1:00pm. Presenter is Bill Church of Allstate Financial Center. Business Development Plan From start-up to seasonal ventures every business needs a plan! This course offers an easy to understand overview of the essential ingredients necessary to grow and optimize your business. Areas touched on include finances, sales, marketing and customer service.
